  • According to the modern calendar, Scriabin was born on Christmas Day, and died on Easter. In his youth, he had a profound fascination with the figure of Christ.

  • The name Scriabin derives from the word “scribe” - “the one who writes.”

  • From an early age, Scriabin showed a deep devotion to the piano. His aunt recalled: “At five years old, he invariably kissed his piano before going to bed - just as other children kiss a figure of the Virgin.”

  • It is said that Scriabin never dressed informally. Even alone at home, he would wear elegant, formal clothing. This aligns with the ideals of the Dandy—a refined and eccentric aesthete—embraced by many artists of the time (Oscar Wilde, Baudelaire, Ravel etc.).

  • Years before Honegger imitated the sound of a train in Pacific 231, Scriabin thought of including an airplane in a symphonic poem on the myth of Icarus.

  • After hearing an Indian musician perform, Scriabin became convinced that The Mystery—his final, unfinished cosmic project—should take place in the Himalayas. He was composing this apocalyptic vision of humanity’s spiritual unification at the very moment World War I began. A close friend later recalled: “His reaction was only incomprehension.”
