Op.21 - Polonaise in B♭ minor

The only Polonaise ever written by Scriabin, once more aligning with his earliest inspiration, Frederic Chopin, from whom also inherited a connection to Polish heritage.
An extremely acrobatic piece : octaves, double trills, polyrhythms, jumps in both hands - full of virtuosity, sometimes at the expense of musical coherence. The harmonies contain harsh dissonances, rather modern for the early period of Scriabin. The structure follows a classical ABA form, and the violent ascents to the highest register of the keyboard are reminiscent of his First Piano Sonata op.6, as if fate were striking suddenly like a thunderbolt.
