Op.31 - 4 Preludes

A set of preludes divided into four pieces :
No. 1 - Andante in D-flat Major
No. 2 - Con stravaganza in F-sharp Minor
No. 3 - Presto in E-flat Mino
No. 4 - Lento in C Major
Once again, the prelude form serves as an exploratory ground for Scriabin’s harmonic language. This set is the first to exhibit truly post-Romantic textures, with modern colors gradually overtaking the tonal framework. The exceptional productivity of this creative period (1903 — thirteen opuses, from Op. 30 to Op. 43) may have been inspired by Scriabin’s new muse, Tatianna de Schloezer.
The first is romantic and vaporous, in the manner of Szymanowski. The second is profoundly innovative, with harsh yet noble dissonances. The third, though very short, shares similarities with the finale of Chopin’s Sonata No. 2, Op. 35. The last, deeply meditative, recalls the religious contemplation found in Liszt’s final compositions.
