Op.37 - 4 Preludes

All the preludes here are accompanied by neo-impressionist paintings to reflect their miniaturist aesthetics : like a collection of musical dots.
All the preludes here are accompanied by neo-impressionist paintings to reflect their miniaturist aesthetics : like a collection of musical dots.

This is the twelfth set of preludes in Scriabin’s output, divided into four pieces:

No. 1 in B-flat Minor
No. 2 in F-sharp Major
No. 3 in B Major
No. 4 in G Minor

A contrasting set of pieces, reflective of the diverse stylistic directions coexisting during this creative period. The first is a kind of elegiac nocturne, with night-like gothic harmonies. It is known to have been written in just half an hour. The second adopts Scriabin’s early pathos style, but enriched with extended harmonies. The third, meditative and calm, echoes Rachmaninoff through its Russian chromatic lines. The last, the most severely dissonant, embodies the “absurd style” of this period—brief, fragmentary pieces made up of dissonant, impulsive gestures.
