Op.70 - Piano Sonata No.10

“Insects are the sun’s kisses…” Scriabin.
“Insects are the sun’s kisses…” Scriabin.

The last piano sonata of Scriabin, a journey through beatitude by way of reconnection with nature and the universe—a sort of universal pantheism. A return to peace after the tortured agitation of the previous sonata. Scriabin described this piece as the sonata of insects, where their swarming becomes a manifestation of our own psyche and consciousness.

Trills in the high register are like the shimmering light of morning, slowly waking up. The rest of the piece is full of breaths, flights, organic movement... The low and high worlds are finally unified. The piece ends on a round and low C.

Scriabin’s last sonata shares a similarity with Beethoven’s late works: the final sonatas represent a return to beatitude.
