Op.73 - 2 Danses

Two contrasted figures in Edvard Munch, La Séparation (1896)
Two contrasted figures in Edvard Munch, La Séparation (1896)

Set of so-called dances but conceived as spiritual poems, divided into two pieces:

No.1 : Guirlandes
No.2 : Flammes Sombres

The first is composed of a single musical idea that seems to unroll infinitely, like the arabesques of a languid vine. It is said to have been inspired by the garlands of ivy surrounding Scriabin’s house. The second is a kind of shortened Vers la Flamme Op.72, with the same ideas of mystical, burning fire. A sense of despair, almost apocalyptic in sonority, shades the entire piece, slowly building to an orgiastic and obsessive dance before returning to its initial languid state.
