Op.17 - 7 Preludes

Besides Op.11, Scriabin largest set of preludes is Op.17, composed mostly during the same year.
Besides Op.11, Scriabin largest set of preludes is Op.17, composed mostly during the same year.

Set of seven pieces :

No.1 : Allegretto (D minor)
No.2 : Presto (E♭ major)
No.3 : Andante (D♭ major)
No.4 : Lento (B♭ minor)
No.5 : Prestissimo (F minor)
No.6 : Andante doloroso (B♭ major)
No.7 : Allegro assai (G minor)

The first prelude is composed of gracious volutes in melancholic textures.

The third, as the No.1 from Op.16, reflects a rather impressionistic color, full of subtle resonance and light, vaguely reminiscent of Debussy.

The fifth, strangely enough, sounds much more like an etude, and might be a conscious pastiche of Chopin’s Etude No.11 op.25.
