WoO 14, 15 : Two Mazurkas (B minor)

‘’Mazurka Dance’’ by Egisto Lancerotto.
‘’Mazurka Dance’’ by Egisto Lancerotto.

The First Mazurka (WoO 14) is a very short piece composed at the age of 12, while the Second (WoO 15) reuses the exact same melody five years later with greater musical maturity. Both share the key of B minor, which is the same tonality that would later close Scriabin’s Romantic first period with the Fantaisie in B minor op.28.

These works are typical of Scriabin’s youthful compositions, fully reminiscent of Chopin and rather light-hearted in character.
