WoO 16 - Mazurka in F major

Despite its title, this mazurka strangely ends in minor, foreshadowing Scriabin later tendency to blur the line between the two possibilities (the first piece in his published catalogue, the Valse Op.1 in F minor ultimately ends in major). This reflects a common aesthetic in Romantic music. The piece is entirely Chopin-esque in its grace, name, and form. It is also one of Scriabin’s lightest compositions.
