WoO 16 - Mazurka in F major

Mazurka of a traditional wedding, Malopolska (1835)
Mazurka of a traditional wedding, Malopolska (1835)

Despite its title, this mazurka strangely ends in minor, foreshadowing Scriabin later tendency to blur the line between the two possibilities (the first piece in his published catalogue, the Valse Op.1 in F minor ultimately ends in major). This reflects a common aesthetic in Romantic music where melancoly and bliss coexist freely. The piece is entirely Chopinesque in its grace, name, and form. It is also one of Scriabin’s lightest compositions.
