WoO 19 - Sonata pf E♭ minor

Scriabin’s second attempt at the sonata form. The First movement provided the basis for a later piece, Allegro Appassionato Op.4. The final movement marked Presto was initially published seperately under the title “Presto in Eb minor”.
While melodies are reminiscent of Chopin, the inner energy of the work already reveals one of Scriabin’s key traits. The writing style, especially in the Third Movement, is rather virtuosic : featuring octavas, fast-paced chords changes etc. Some musical ideas seem to have been reused in the first published Sonata No.1 Op.6. The structure is already quite sophisticated: near the end of the first movement, Scriabin overlays both principal themes in a harmonically coherent structure.
