This fugue was once again composed as part of Scriabin’s studies at the conservatory. (The only contrapuntal piece he would later write out of personal artistic will is the chordal fugue found in his First Symphony.)

The highly chromatic theme already hints at his musical future. Composed in five voices, the work is more refined than his earlier attempts, and demonstrates a well-crafted, confident command of counterpoint.
