Op.2 - 3 Pieces

Collection of three distinct pieces composed of :
No.1 - Etude in C# minor
No.2 - Prelude in B major
No.3 - Impromptu à la Mazur in C major
No.1 - Etude (C♯ minor) :
The very first Etude composed by Scriabin. It remained very popular during his lifetime. Its lyricism is already deeply personal, composed of circling melodies, a low bass line, restrained emotions and repeated chords. It is not an étude focused on a particular pianistic technic but rather on musical expression (much like Chopin No.7 Op.25).
No.2 - Prelude in B major
Despite Scriabin’s youth, the chromatic counterpoint already reveals his own style. This piece anticipates the lyrical style of his later Impromptus (Op.10, 12 and 14), all intensely lyrical. It is also the first known prelude by Scriabin for which the manuscript has survived.
No.3 - Impromptu à la Mazur in C major
Musically more modest than the two others pieces, it is conceived more as a light-hearted salon piece suitable for dancing. It echoes the spirit of the mazurka without the depth found in Scriabin’s more mature works.
