Waltzes were one of the most popular dance form of the 20th century, initiated by the Viennese high classes.

The waltz is also the genre Scriabin would choose to open his published list of works with the Waltz in F minor Op.1 - once again echoing his inheritance of Chopin’s aesthetics.

The two waltzes are flowing and written in a well accomplished romantic traditional style. The first (WoO 7 Valse in G sharp minor) begins with a dramatic build-up, while the second (WoO 8 – Valse in Db Major) opens with a light-hearted melody.
